Two organizations have issued two different opinions on the critical question of how employers will react to changes implemented in 2014 according to the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA), including state Health Insurance Exchanges.
The first report ? issued by the Congressional Budget Office (CBO) and the Joint Committee on Taxation (JCT) examines multiple options and scenarios that employers will face to determine their reaction and concludes that most likely things will even out and the country will see no great shift from employers.
A second report ? issued by McKinsey and Company reaches a far different conclusion. This group predicts that 30% of employers will drop their sponsorship of health insurance and maybe even more as awareness of the Health Insurance Exchanges spreads and 2014 approaches.
Both reports make the assumption that PPACA will not be repealed or overturned by the Supreme Court and that no major changes to it will be made ? an issue that will certainly be affected by the outcome of the 2012 presidential election.
